Q.7 Answer:D During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is absorbed by the green plant ,and sodium hydrogencarbobate releases carbon dioxide .On the other hand,oxygen is released from the plant ,thus the total volume of gas inside the syringe increases ,and the water level in the pipette is lowered.The increase in volume of gas recorded ids due to oxygen released by the plant. Therefore,the rate of photosynthesis in terms of volume of oxygen released: =Change in volume of gas / time =(0.45-0.20)/0.5 =0.50 mLO2 produced per hour Q.8 Answer:A (A) The plant carried respiration at the same time so that oxygen is taken up. This reduces the amount of oxygen released into the syringe .Therefore, the rate of increase in the volume of gas inside the syringe is lower than that when only photosynthesis occurs. (B)The plant did carry out transpiration at the same time ,in which water vapour is released into the syringe to increase the volume of gas inside.This will make the rate obtained higher than the actual rate of photosynthesis of the plant. (C) Increase in air temperature causes air in the syringe to increase in volume, because air expand in high temperature .So, the rate measured in the study is higher than the actual rate of photosynthesis of the plant.
